Commercial Photographer

Unusually, it was physics classes at school that led to a young Donald Stewart’s imagination being captured by photography.

An enterprising teacher had introduced darkroom processing to the classroom to give the students some practical experience with things like chemicals, light and lenses. For Donald the whole process of transferring film to print and the subtle effects that could be achieved with little variations in chemical mixes or printing exposures became an absolute fascination.

Donald started his career with IPC Magazines in Glasgow moving onto the Scottish Farmer as a trainee photographer.  In 1974 he took up a position as staff photographer at Aberdeen Journals working for both the Press and Journal and Evening Express shooting a range of Press assignments including sport and general reportage before going freelance in 1989.

During his career Donald has won National Press Awards including Royal, News and Sport categories.

Since going freelance Donald has continued to offer a wide range of press photography such as sport and news to national newspapers together with extensive feature and Royal photography.

Donald has a large PR and commercial clientele and prides himself on the personal touch always giving 100 percent to each assignment.

Committed to using top of the range equipment Donald carries out all photoshoots on Nikon Digital cameras and offers both digital and print services.

All these years on from that science classroom, Donald remains passionate about his work and excited by the challenges that have to be met every day capturing great photography.
